In computational thinking, patterns are important because they help us understand and solve problems more easily. Recognizing patterns means seeing how things are similar or work together, and it's a super useful skill for solving all sorts of problems, from writing code to understanding complex information.

Rubber Ducks Patterns BREAKOUT ROOM PUZZLE
SOLUTION: CODER
PREPARE AHEAD OF TIME:
Print out the Rubber Duck Patterns worksheet in color.
Provide students with a set of rubber ducks they may use to complete the patterns on the worksheet.
Use a permanent marker to write the letters C-O-D-E-R on the bottom of each duck in the same order they complete the patterns on the worksheet.
(OPTIONAL) - You may use another word or no letters if you are not using the word lock.
TO COMPLETE THE PUZZLE:
Students will complete each pattern with the correct duck. Underneath each duck is a letter that when put together spell “CODER.”
Once the puzzle is solved, students will be able to open the 5-letter word lock.
